ANNO | YEAR 2021 18 HARVEST DIARY | DIARIO DELLA VENDEMMIA Valle di Cerbaia, via alle micro-vinificazioni Villa Cerbaia, green light for micro-vinification In seguito alla volontà di differenziare i vigneti e suddividerli in base alle differenti condizioni climatiche e territoriali, è nato il Vigneto Valle di Cerbaia che si trova nel comune di Bibbona, al confine con Bolgheri, con una superficie complessiva di 7,3 ettari di cui 4,4 vitati nel 2008 con il sistema di allevamento del cordone speronato. I due appezzamenti che lo costituiscono si trovano su diverse altitudini: nella parte più alta, dove il terreno è più povero e fortemente caratterizzato da sabbie e ciottoli, sono stati piantati vitigni di Cabernet Franc e Cabernet Sauvignon. In questa tipologia di vigneto, sono state inoltre introdotte varietà e cloni particolari per poter sviluppare sperimentazioni in campo vinicolo e in seguito effettuare micro-vinificazioni in collaborazione con Istituti Universitari. In prossimità dell’appezzamento di terreno argilloso e fresco che si trova più in basso rispetto all’intera vigna, sono stati messi a dimora 1,4 ettari di Viognier, varietà che ben si adatta a suoli che trattengono maggiormente l’acqua, attitudine particolarmente utile in annate calde e tendenzialmente asciutte come la vendemmia 2021 appena conclusa. The Valle di Cerbaia Vineyard was established with the desire to differentiate the vineyards and divide them according to the different climatic and territorial conditions. Located in the municipality of Bibbona, on the border with Bolgheri, it covers a total area of 7.3 hectares, of which 4.4 were planted with vines in 2008 using spurred cordon training. The two plots that make it up are located on different altitudes: Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon were planted in the highest part, where the soil is poorer and strongly characterized by sand and pebbles. In this type of vineyard, special varieties and clones have also been introduced in order to develop experiments in the wine sector and then undertake micro-vinifications in collaboration with University Institutes. Near the plot of clayey and fresh land that is located lower than the rest of the vineyard, 1.4 hectares of Viognier have been planted, a variety that is well suited to soils that retain more water, a particularly useful aptitude in hot and tendentially dry years such as the justcompleted 2021 harvest. This year Mediterra has changed its appearance, while remaining faithful to the graphics that have always distinguished it: the traditional ammonite fossil symbolizing the origins of the Mediterranean character of this wine, is positioned in an extremely elegant way on the new Mediterra label, now in a Bordeaux bottle that perfectly complements Poggio al Tesoro’s range of red wines. The result of a winning blend of Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, it succeeds in the challenging task of expressing the delicious richness it can offer along with a simple and extremely pleasant drinkability. Mediterra is a wine of great character, expressing the intensity of whole, unspoilt fruit caressed by the sun and the sea.
