106 Act III / Poggio al Tesoro, the Men and the Women 107 Act III / Poggio al Tesoro, the Men and the Women On the left: The Poggio al Tesoro winery part of our estate and its work just as though they were our own employees. Every year, in addition, we organize a technical tasting of the wines in which the entire staff, at each and every level, is called upon to taste the wines and express his or her own judgment and opinion, a practice which we consider absolutely fundamental in order that everyone understands what his and her work contributes to and how it helps to achieve certain results. It is essential that there be an awareness of each single person’s own contribution to the final quality level; this is the best way to create satisfaction in the work, a sense of personal importance and identity, of belonging, to each and every single member of the staff». Concerning the objectives and the specific identity of Poggio al Tesoro, finally, Marrico, Nicola, and Franco speak almost in unison: «the fact that the owners of the property are at a certain distance is an important stimulus because it leaves us space and gives us confidence, but it is also an element which gives us, almost without directly realizing it, a strong sense of responsibility. We are, naturally constantly in contact with Marilisa and Franco and the principal, the strategic decisions, the guidelines come from them, but the fact that the Allegrini family is not constantly present in Bolgheri does not give us the certainty that the daily decisions and all the details are shared by them. This is a negative aspect, but there are many positive aspects as well; it has, for example, created a closer, deeper, and egalitarian rapport among those of us who work here at Poggio al Tesoro. We are also aware that we work in a privileged setting, and even more aware that of the responsibilities and the expectations which are called into play. Bolgheri is a legendary place, a legend founded on the prestige of the place and the great names which surround us with whom we constantly compete. Allegrini cannot settle for mediocre results in any of the areas in which it operates but must necessarily aim to be part of a restricted elite of excellence. The men and women of Poggio al Tesoro must always keep this objective in mind and must take pride in the estate. For this reason, though we are convinced that we have done good work up until now, we cannot and must not rest on our laurels.
