Poggio al Tesoro - 10 Years / 2002 - 2012

The first to arrive was Nicola, an ambitious young oenologist with clear ideas about winemaking who was already working with us at San Polo, the property which we acquired in Montalcino six years after the foundation of Poggio al Tesoro. His becoming part of the staff at Bolgheri confirmed our conviction that there was an uncommon quality potential to be developed. A very hard worker, meticulous and very responsible, Nicola is a scrupulous and well prepared professional both in terms of his technical training and his tasting capacity, an indispensable gift for any oenologist who aims at excellence in his wines. A few months later Marrico arrived and soon demonstrated that he would be the key figure which was missing, the central element which, once in place, made a decisive contribution to the proper and precise functioning of the entire working mechanism. His is an administrative role, but thanks to his character and his talents he has known how to inspire in all of his associates an important charge of energy and enthusiasm, becoming a reference point and making all of his co-workers feel themselves an important part of the entire project. Franco Dal Colle, originally from Verona but strengthened by significant working experiences at various Tuscan estates, is a more recent addition to the group. He first took charge of the Poggio al Tesoro vineyards in July 2010 and his arrival was truly another stroke of fortune».. «We met him by chance – interjects Franco Allegrini – after he had sent us his CV. At that time I was not happy about how the vineyards were managed; there were certain objectives, above all those concerning the maximization of resources, which I thought to be indispensable but which were far from being achieved. I must admit that, in the beginning, I was a bit brusque with Franco; I immediately told him what I wanted to achieve and how much time I was willing to give him to achieve it: ‘in the Allegrini firm either you remain for three months or for a lifetime’. Dal Colle was not particularly fazed and immediately began his work in a systematic way, taking on a difficult task. And, if this was not sufficient, the 2010 vintage, with its heavy rains, was perhaps, climatically speaking, the most difficult On the left: Guyot training for Vermentino Solosole
