DIARIO DELLA VENDEMMIA HARVEST DIARY 2019 12 13 La raccolta del nostro Vermentino è quella che inizia per prima, coprendo un arco temporale più lungo. Abbiamo iniziato il 4 settembre e, ad eccezione di poche giornate di stacco, la raccolta è andata avanti fino al 12. Durante la vendemmia, sempre in notturno per questa varietà, la nostra squadra sembra uno sciame di lucciole: le lucine che hanno posizionate sulla fronte, si muovono fra i vigneti, ancora al buio. Lavendemmianotturnarappresentaormaipernoiun rituale emozionante e suggestivo, carico però di motivazioni tecniche: le uve arrivano fresche e perfettamente integre in cantina e dunque la fermentazione inizia sotto i migliori auspici. Our harvest kicks off with Vermentino and covers the longest time span. We started on September 4th and, with the exception of a few days off, the harvest went on until the 12th. During the harvest, which always takes place at night for this variety, our team looks like a swarm of fireflies: the little headlights they wear on their foreheads flutter around the vineyards, still cloaked in darkness. The nocturnal harvest is an exciting and evocative ritual for us, but heavily influenced by technical considerations: the grapes arrive fresh and perfectly intact in the cellar and therefore fermentation begins in the most auspicious conditions. It’s wonderful to see the vines grow and witness the birth of a vineyard. At Le Sondraie we have acquired new land where we have planted rooted cuttings of Vermentino. It is even closer to the sea, the breezes are perfect and we feel sure that we can say, on the basis of our analysis of the soil, which is less clayey here, that the grapes will be even more flavoursome. It is a habit of ours to name each vineyard, indicating the variety and year of planting, but the whole team has decided to dedicate this plot to Carlotta, Marilisa’s elder daughter, to bring her good luck in her career. A brilliant doctor, she is also increasingly active in the life of Poggio al Tesoro. È bellissimo vedere crescere le viti e assistere alla nascita di un vigneto. A Le Sondraie abbiamoacquisitonuovi terreni doveabbiamo impiantatobarbatelledi Vermentino. Siamo sempre più vicini al mare, la ventilazione è perfetta e ci sentiamo di dire che secondo le analisi del terreno, che qui si presenta meno argilloso, l’uva sarà ancora più saporita. È nostra abitudine nominare i vigneti indicandone la varietà e l’anno di impianto, ma tutta la squadra ha pensato di dedicare questo appezzamento a Carlotta, affinché sia di buon auspicio per la carriera della figlia primogenita di Marilisa, medico brillante, ma anche sempre più attiva nella vita di Poggio al Tesoro.
