DIARIO DELLA VENDEMMIA HARVEST DIARY 2019 4 5 Se si potesse decidere a tavolino l’andamento climatico ideale per produrre grandi vini a Bolgheri, l’annata 2019 verrebbe sicuramente presa come da manuale. Siamo intervenuti nel vigneto inmodominimale durante il bizzaro periodo primaverile descritto da Franco e quello che abbiamo potuto constatare è stato un rallentamento del ciclo vegetativo, visto che il mese di maggio ha avuto una media stagionale di 14-15°. A giugno, finalmente, è iniziata l’estate! Il tempo bello e soleggiato è continuato per tutto luglio; solo alla fine del mese, una pioggia rinfrescante, ha interrotto un piccolo inizio di stress idrico. Le belle giornate soleggiate e le notti fresche di Agosto ci hanno permesso di portare a maturazione le uve con grande equilibrio. La vendemmia è iniziata l’ultima settimana di agosto con la raccolta notturna delle uve per i rosati, a seguire il vermentino, varietà che, nello specifico, ha proseguito un’ottima maturazione fino al 12 Settembre. Verso la fine della prima settimana di settembre abbiamo iniziato la vendemmia del Syrah, poi a metà settembre il Merlot. We intervened in the vineyard to a minimal extent during the bizarre spring period described by Franco and what we saw was a slowing down of the vegetative cycle, given that the month of May saw a seasonal average of 14-15°C. The summer finally began in June! The beautiful sunny weather continued throughout July until the end of the month when some refreshing rain cut short the start of some strain due to water shortage. The fine, sunny weather and cool August nights enabled the grapes to ripen in a perfectly balanced way. The harvest began in the last week of August with the nighttime harvesting of the grapes for our rosé wines, followed by Vermentino, a variety which, in particular, continued to ripen perfectly until September 12th. Towards the end of the first week of September we started harvesting Syrah, then in the middle of September, Merlot. The harvest progressed without particular interval following the usual sequence of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and finally Petit Verdot. The grapes in the Soprastrada vineyards in Via Bolgherese and Chiesina San Giuseppe presented us with peaks of extremely high quality thanks to the harvest undertaken in 3 phases with the three different varieties and careful vinification of each selection. The wines are now very balanced after fermentation, with ideal fruitiness and acidity. The white and rosé wines express great fragrances while the reds are elegant with excellent ageing potential. Vintage 2019 has seen the addition of some new winemaking, such as the production of Viognier from our Bibbona vineyard, accompanied by an important wine project whose aim is to produce a truly great wine. By working well in the vineyard and in the winery, we want our grapes to always provide the very best quality and we are never satisfied with anything less! In short, this vintage is a source of great satisfaction: wines of character that, we are sure, will be considered outstanding and remembered for many years. interruzioni, la vendemmia è proseguita con la sequenza che ormai conosciamo come abituale Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon e Petit Verdot. Le uve dei vigneti soprastrada di Via Bolgherese e Chiesina San Giuseppe, ci hanno donato punte di estrema qualità grazie al raccolto che si è svolto in 3 volte con le tre differenti varietà e una vinificazione accurata per ogni selezione. I vini, dopo le fermentazioni, sono molto equilibrati, con un buon fruttato e una bella acidità. Bianchi e rosati esprimono grande fragranza, i rossi si presentano eleganti, con ottime prospettive di affinamento. Con l’annata 2019 abbiamo aggiunto nuoveesperienzedi vinificazione, come per esempio la produzione di Viognier dal nostro vigneto di Bibbona, accompagnato da un progetto viticolo importante, con la finalità di produrre un grande vino. Lavorando bene in vigna e in cantina, vogliamo che le nostre uve ci diano sempre il meglio senza accontentarci mai! In poche parole, un’annata di grande soddisfazione: vini di carattere che si faranno notare e che, siamo convinti, ricorderemo a lungo.
