Un momento particolarmente emozionante per noi di Poggio al Tesoro: questa è l’ultima varietà che ha arricchito il patrimonio ampelografico dell’azienda, ci sta riservando belle sorprese. Il Petit Manseng, oltre ad essere vinificato in purezza nel Teos, viene utilizzato per il 30% nel blend del Pagus Camilla. Quest’anno le uve hanno preso una leggera gelata che ha provocato un calo di produzione. Nonostante le preoccupazioni iniziali, le prove effettuate sugli acini hanno rivelato un’ottima qualità, a dimostrazione del fatto che le viti non hanno subito uno stress eccessivo. Per la produzione del Pagus Camilla, uno dei nostri preziosi gioielli, si effettua una macerazione sulle bucce per 4 giorni. L’attività di monitoraggio è molto intensa: ogni 2/3 ore, Lorenzo assaggia le bucce per poter prendere le decisioni sui tempi di svinatura. La macerazione è di tipo fermentativo, con qualche giorno di cappello prima del trasferimento in anfora per la fermentazione in bianco. We decided to carry out an initial harvesting of the Petit Manseng at Le Sondraie. This is a particularly exciting moment for us at Poggio al Tesoro: the most recent varietal to enriched the company’s ampelographic portfolio, this is a new entry that we are sure holds many surprises in store for the future. The Petit Manseng, in addition to being vinified on its own to produce Teos, is used 30% in the blend of Pagus Camilla. This year the grapes suffered a slight frost which caused a drop in production. Despite initial concerns, the tests carried out on the berries revealed excellent quality, demonstrating the fact that the vines have not undergone any undue stress. To produce Pagus Camilla, one of our precious gems, maceration on the skins is carried out for 4 days. Monitoring is very intense: every 2-3 hours, in fact, Lorenzo tastes the skins so he can take decisions on racking times. La competenza di Allegrini nel processo di appassimento ci ha permesso di arrivare a produrre un vino dolce, il Teos, creato da uve parzialmente appassite. La buccia spessa del Petit Manseng somiglia a quella degli abitanti della zona in cui pare sia nato nel 1500: quella storica regione della Francia sud-occidentale, addossata ai Pirenei, nota come Béarn. Acini piccoli e biondi, zeppi di zuccheri ma anche di acidità, che regalano vini secchi e dolci di eccellente qualità. Petit Manseng is a white grape variety, often left in the vineyard for a long time to produce a late harvest wine. Allegrini’s expertise in the appassimento drying process has enabled us to produce a sweet wine, Teos, made with partially-dried grapes. Petit Manseng’s thick skin resembles that of the inhabitants of the area in which it seems to have originated in1500: the historic region of south-western France, shouldered by the Pyrenees, known as Béarn. The berry is small and golden in colour, full of sugar but also of acidity, yielding excellent dry and sweet wines.
