Percorsa fin dal ‘700 dai viaggiatori internazionali del Grand Tour, collega il Viale dei cipressi a Castagneto Carducci. Il Cabernet Franc è di probabile origine illirica e progenitore del più famoso Cabernet Sauvignon, nato nel Medioevo da un incrocio spontaneo con il Sauvignon Blanc. Nel nome del vitigno è racchiuso tutto il suo fascino e la sua principale caratteristica: un vino che si definisce franco, dotato di profumo intenso, pulito e inconfondibile. Gli aromi del Cabernet Franc non potrebbero essere più netti: liquirizia, peperone, pepe, tracce fumé e humus che si sposano a frutta rossa e nera, come mirtilli, ribes, lamponi e fragole. Unanimously considered the most elegant variety grown in Bolgheri, Cabernet Franc reaches perfect phenolic ripeness especially in the prestigious land located east of Via Bolgherese, the famous road framed by imposing, centuries-old oaks. Travelled since the 1700s by international visitors on the Grand Tour, it connects the famous cypress-lined avenue called Viale dei Cipressi to Castagneto Carducci. Cabernet Franc is probably of Illyrian origin and progenitor of the more famous Cabernet Sauvignon, originating in the Middle Ages from a spontaneous hybridization with Sauvignon Blanc. The name of the vine embodies its charm as well as its main characteristic: a wine self-defined as frank, with an intense, clean and unmistakable aroma. The aromas of Cabernet Franc could not be more clear-cut: liquorice, bell pepper, pepper, smoky traces and humus, melded with red and black fruit, such as blueberries, currants, raspberries and strawberries. Its balsamic note is unmistakable. È un vitigno da media a tarda maturazione, resistente a differenti condizioni climatiche e mantiene intatte le sue caratteristiche organolettiche, adattandosi però molto bene ai diversi terroirs. Gli acini sono piccoli e hanno un caratteristico colore azzurrastro, la cui buccia è ricca di tannini e pigmenti. Queste caratteristiche, unitamente all’elevata acidità, consentono di ottenere vini idonei a lunghe maturazioni, robusti e tannici, spesso assemblati con il più morbido Merlot: il classico taglio bordolese. La prossimità con un mare caldo come il Mediterraneo, conferisce a questo blend caratteristiche particolari che noi identifichiamo come stile bolgherese. This is probably the most widespread variety in the world and best expresses its potential in alluvial, welldrained, dry and sandy soils such as those in Bolgheri, where it produces few scattered clusters that yield deeply coloured, highly-structured wines. It is a medium to late-ripening vine that is resistant to different climatic conditions, maintains its organoleptic characteristics intact and adapts very well to different terroirs. The berries are small and have a characteristic bluish colour, with a skin that is rich in tannins and pigments. These characteristics, together with its high acidity, make it possible to obtain wines that are suitable for extended ageing and are robust and tannic in character. They are often blended with the softer Merlot: the classic Bordeaux blend. The proximity to a warm sea like the Mediterranean gives this blend special characteristics that we typically identify as the Bolgheri style.
