Poggio al Tesoro Trophy: Solidarity Also Wins

The first edition of the Spring Regatta Poggio al Tesoro Trophy took place last weekend in Marina di Salivoli, Piombino. The event was organized by the Bolgherese Estate of Marilisa Allegrini in collaboration with the Yacht Club of the namesake town. The outcome of this debut event is extremely positive, with thrilling emotions complementing the competition, all set against the beautiful backdrop of the Tuscan Archipelago.

Who won the Poggio al Tesoro Trophy, the Spring Regatta?

The Spring Regatta Poggio al Tesoro is a project sponsored by the Municipality of Piombino and the Tuscany Region. It was created with the aim of promoting and supporting the spread of sailing sports in the area where Marilisa and her brother Walter decided, more than twenty years ago, to realize their dream of starting a new adventure in Tuscany.

During the regatta, participants competed along a course stretching from the coast of Piombino to the small islands of Cerboli and Palmaiola. The race saw the participation of 23 boats divided into three length classes: Alpha, up to 8.50 meters in length; Bravo class, with a length overall greater than or equal to 8.51 meters and less than or equal to 10.50 meters; Charlie class, with a length overall greater than or equal to 10.5 meters.

The overall winners of the race, in addition to receiving the first-place prize in their category, won a stay at Villa della Torre in Fumane, Valpolicella, one of the rarest and most precious gems of the Renaissance. The lucky winners are SuperKalimera from the Kali Mera Sailing Team of owner Massimo Sabatini. In the Bravo category, the first place was awarded to the boat Enneagamma, a Dragonfly 120 trimaran owned by Carlo Merli. In the Alpha category, the first place was claimed by Jocosa, sailed by the students of the Marina di Salivoli sailing club.

KaliMera Team: The Winners

“It’s exceptional what can be accomplished by joining forces,” comments Stefano Ferraro, president of the Yacht Club Marina di Salivoli. “Thanks to everyone’s collaboration, we have created a sporting event that not only celebrates the wonderful world of sailing but also the excellence of the territory, the beauty of our landscapes, the commitment to solidarity, and the joy of conviviality and being together. These are crucial resources that form the soul of our beautiful land, seasoned with a touch of competition and the awareness that competition can be exciting and participatory, even when not taken to extremes, because what truly enriches us are, above all, the people.”

With the wines of the Bolgheri Estate of Marilisa Allegrini, solidarity also wins.

Completing the initiative, the charity auction of Poggio al Tesoro wines was a great success, raising over 1,000 euros in funds, all of which will be donated to the Aisla Onlus association, a national reference entity for the protection, assistance, and care of ALS patients. Aisla has long been active in the area, organizing sailing events that involve its members. Specifically, the proceeds will support the Thalas 2022 initiative, a day where ALS patients can experience sailing out at sea.

“Donating is beautiful, and donating consciously is wonderful. We who have lived Aisla for over 20 years know that we are often the voice of many people who can no longer speak due to the disease. It is with this important awareness that we sincerely thank Poggio al Tesoro. Knowing that an excellence of Italian wine has taken an interest in our world is a source of great pride and hope. The funds raised will be used to organize Thalas 2022 (a national event for Aisla) on June 18 and 19, again at the Port of Salivoli, with the help of the YCMS and the management of the Marina di Salivoli Port, to bring moments of serenity to people with ALS and their families, and to finance Aisla’s activities in our territory,” says Marco Bocchigli, Aisla Piombino representative.

“An initiative that I am very proud of,” concludes Marilisa Allegrini. “May this be the first of many new opportunities to strengthen our bond with the Tuscan territory that welcomed us and to which we are deeply grateful.”
