Chiesina San Giuseppe - Soprastrada
This seven-hectare plot is located next to the Via Bolgherese vineyard. The soil is of alluvial origin with very ancient deposits and is characterised by loose clay and sand rich in fossils and pebbles. The presence of elements such as limestone and iron gives this soil a particular red colour, creating an ideal environment for the typical varietals grown in Bolgheri. Merlot was planted in an area characterised by the highest level of clay in the superficial layer, with pebbles deeper down, suppressing the innate vigour of this grape variety.
Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon were planted in the soils with the richest deposits of fossils and they adapt perfectly to poor and stony surface soils.
