In 2001, driven by the desire to explore new horizons, Marilisa Allegrini and her brother Walter expanded their winemaking expertise beyond Valpolicella, arriving in Bolgheri—a region of exceptional beauty and promise. This is how Poggio al Tesoro was born, a true reflection of their vision and passion.
Located in a prime setting, the vineyards of Poggio al Tesoro give each wine a distinctive character, harmoniously balancing tradition with innovation. Each bottle embodies excellence, deeply connected to the land that continuously inspires and captivates. Today, Poggio al Tesoro is more than a winery; it is a dynamic and cohesive venture, transforming its vision into reality through diligent work in both the vineyard and cellar, constantly evolving while staying true to its roots.
“My brother Walter was a one-of-a-kind farmer. He was deeply attached to his native land, Valpolicella. He knew everything about it: the vineyard plots, the weather variations, how to catch crayfish with his hands. He also knew how to dream of new adventures, beyond known boundaries and horizons. Our adventure began in 2001 with the discovery of land in Tuscany for which we travelled far and wide in search of a fruitful investment, without betraying the spirit and tradition of being "down to earth" winemakers. He called it "Tuscan shopping", but there was nothing hedonistic about it: we looked, we studied, and we tried to understand and imagine its future. In the end, emotion was victorious. And this emotion had a name: Bolgheri. Walter did not hesitate: he was impressed by the great names in wine who had established wineries here, by the Viale dei Cipressi which he adored, by the proximity of the sea, by the profound soil diversity, by the good climate, he said, for making red wines of "great character and elegance”. We were done looking. We found our treasure, Poggio al Tesoro.”

The Land of Bolgheri
The area of Bolgheri flourished in the splendour of ancient Etruscan civilization and is celebrated by the artistic poetry of Giosuè Carducci. Today, it is a must-see destination for all who love wine and the traditional Mediterranean landscape: cork oaks, strawberry trees, umbrella pines, migratory bird sanctuaries, and forests that gently slope down towards the sea. It is a truly natural oasis where grapevines and olive trees play a central role.
Between sea and hills
Bolgheri’s uniqueness comes from complex factors, including its close proximity to the sea and hills which protect the winery’s eastern flanks. Poggio al Tesoro is like a treasure chest, perched between the sea and the hills, and benefits from the unique characteristics of this area. Winters are mild and summer lasts until October. Continuous ventilation refreshes the air even in the hottest months, promoting the health of the grapes. Long, sunny days contribute to the structure of Poggio al Tesoro’s wines. The fundamental component that makes this territory unique is sunlight, which is strong and bright throughout the year: the sun’s reflection on the sea surface is the secret to the grapes’ optimal phenolic maturation.

Solosole

This is a 100% Bolgheri Vermentino. Its name expresses the close bond between this Mediterranean grape variety and the terroir of Bolgheri. This wine is a special favourite of Marilisa Allegrini. It embodies the colours, fragrances and flavours of these lands that lie so close to the sea.
Cassiopea
Costa Toscana Rosato IGT
Cassiopea revives the tradition of great rosés from this area, which are well-known for their extraordinary savoury hints and freshness. It has the colour and intensity of Bolgheri’s summer sunsets and bears the name of the constellation that lights up the skies above the estate of Poggio al Tesoro.
Mediterra
Toscana I.G.T.
As its name suggests, this red wine is characterised by aromas of the Mediterranean scrub and the enticing scent of sea salt. Mediterra is a wine with great personality that expresses the intensity of the whole, intact fruit, kissed by sun and sea.
Il Seggio
Bolgheri Rosso D.O.C.
The Seggio river is the largest watercourse in the municipality of Castagneto Carducci. This Bolgheri Rosso is produced with typical grape varieties, carefully harvested and vinified to ensure density and concentration but also to create a very fresh and easy-drinking style of wine.
Sondraia

This is a broad, intense and enveloping Viognier, which owes its refined but versatile character to skilful practices aimed at preserving its freshness and varietal aromas.

This is Poggio al Tesoro’s flagship wine, produced with the best grapes from the parcels on the estate. This is a new kind of Supertuscan, successfully expressing the richness of an extraordinary territory, combining tension, complexity and great finesse.
Dedicato a Walter
Bolgheri Superiore D.O.C.
This is one of the rare 100% Cabernet Francs from Bolgheri and indeed from Italy, dedicated by Marilisa Allegrini to her brother Walter. It has become the jewel in Poggio al Tesoro’s crown. Here, this vineyard finds an ideal habitat in which to express itself in an absolutely independent and original fashion.
Vermentino Bolgheri D.O.C.
The Ancient Romans used the word ‘Pagus’ to identify a rural area that was of special agricultural value. This is still true today of Pagus Camilla, part of the vineyard called Le Sondraie, which lies near a natural oasis of the same name.
Pagus Cerbaia
Rosato Bolgheri D.O.C.
Production of rosé wines in Bolgheri goes back to ancient times. Starting with Cassiopea, rosé production at Poggio al Tesoro is now extended with Pagus Cerbaia, a small but precious parcel of land with sedimentary soils.
